Introduction
- The Olycom IM-FP888GW is the high-density evolution of the IM-FP288GW — a fully managed industrial PoE fiber switch that scales the fiber uplink capacity from 2 to 8 × 2.5G SFP ports while retaining all 8 × Gigabit PoE RJ45 access ports, delivering a platform built for the most fiber-intensive industrial and transportation network architectures in deployment today.
- With a 56Gbps non-blocking switching fabric, 41.667Mpps forwarding rate, and 240W PoE budget across all eight copper ports, the IM-FP888GW is engineered to serve as a high-throughput aggregation or core node in multi-ring fiber topologies — simultaneously maintaining multiple fiber ring segments, aggregating upstream bandwidth via LACP, and powering a full cluster of downstream PoE endpoints, all from a single DIN-rail mounted unit.
- The full enterprise-grade management stack — STP/RSTP/MSTP, ITU-T G.8032 EPR ring protection, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, QoS, IGMP Snooping, 802.1X security, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, CLI, and Web GUI — gives network engineers granular control over every traffic flow, ring segment, and PoE port without compromising the rugged industrial foundation: ±15KV ESD, ±6KV EFT and surge immunity, 6KV Ethernet surge protection, -40°C to +75°C operation, and IP40 corrugated metal housing rated for permanent deployment in transportation, substation, and heavy industrial environments.
Key Features
- 8 × 100/1000/2500Mbps SFP Fiber Ports — Eight multi-rate fiber ports support simultaneous ring segments, dual-homed uplinks, and high-bandwidth backbone aggregation; compatible with single-mode (1310/1550nm up to 20km; 1490/1550nm up to 40–120km) and multimode (1310nm up to 2km; 850nm up to 500m) transceivers
- 8 × 10/100/1000Mbps PoE RJ45 Ports — All eight copper ports deliver IEEE 802.3af (15.4W) or 802.3at (30W) PoE with per-port management; 240W total budget on dedicated 48V input; non-PoE devices detected and served data-only automatically
- 56Gbps Non-Blocking Switching Fabric / 41.667Mpps Forwarding Rate — Wire-speed performance across all 16 ports simultaneously; 8K MAC table, 4MB packet buffer, 9.6KB jumbo frame support, and <10µs forwarding delay
- ITU-T G.8032 Ethernet Protection Ring (EPR) — Sub-50ms ring failover across any of the eight fiber ports; enables complex multi-ring architectures with automatic path recovery — the core capability that justifies eight fiber ports over two
- STP / RSTP / MSTP — Full spanning tree suite for loop prevention and fast convergence in both ring and mesh topologies alongside EPR
- Dynamic & Static LACP Link Aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad) — Bonds multiple fiber uplinks for combined throughput and redundancy; critical for aggregation nodes where a single 2.5G uplink is insufficient
- Advanced QoS: CoS / DSCP / Bandwidth Control / Storm Suppression — Eight-level traffic prioritization with per-port input/output bandwidth control and broadcast/multicast storm suppression ensures latency-sensitive traffic is never preempted
- Comprehensive VLAN Suite — IEEE 802.1Q, port-based, MAC-based, IP subnet, Protocol, and QinQ (802.1ad) VLANs; VLAN conversion and MVR for multicast replication across VLAN boundaries
- IGMP/MLD Snooping v1/v2/v3 — Efficient multicast management for IP surveillance, IPTV, and industrial multicast protocols; includes IGMP filtering, querying, and proxy reporting
- Multi-Layer Security — Port and MAC-based IEEE 802.1X authentication, RADIUS, TACACS+, ACL, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH v2/SSL; per-port PoE enable/disable for endpoint access control
- Full Management Interface — Cisco-style CLI, Web GUI, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Telnet, RMON, LLDP, NTP/SNTP, DNS, event logging; TFTP/HTTP firmware upgrade with redundancy to prevent upgrade failure
- IPv6 Full Management Support — Telnet, ICMPv6, SNMP, HTTP, SSH/SSL, NTP/SNTP, TFTP, QoS, and ACL all available over IPv6
- Cable Diagnostics — Locates fault points on copper runs without physical inspection; reduces field service time on installed networks
- IEEE 802.3az EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) — Dynamically reduces power on idle links; meaningful savings across eight always-on fiber ports in 24/7 infrastructure
- ±15KV Air / ±6KV Contact ESD | ±6KV EFT | ±6KV Common-Mode Surge — Full IEC 61000-4-2/4/5 industrial immunity suite across all ports
- 6KV Ethernet Surge Protection — Port-level lightning and transient protection on all RJ45 interfaces
- -40°C to +75°C | IP40 Corrugated Metal | 158 × 115 × 60mm | DIN-Rail / Wall-Mount
- CE Class B / FCC Class B | 3-Year Warranty + Lifetime Technical Support
Applications
- Multi-Ring Industrial Fiber Backbone Nodes — Eight SFP ports are the defining capability: the IM-FP888GW can simultaneously participate in multiple independent EPR fiber rings — connecting upstream backbone rings, downstream access rings, and lateral inter-node links from a single chassis. This makes it the natural aggregation node in large industrial campuses, manufacturing complexes, and transportation networks where two-fiber switches create bottlenecks at ring interconnection points
- High-Density Transportation & Smart Highway Infrastructure — Deployed at major intersection hubs and highway surveillance nodes where a single location must connect into multiple fiber segments simultaneously — main trunk ring, local area ring, and management network — while also powering a cluster of PoE cameras, controllers, and communication devices. Eight fiber ports handle the topology complexity; eight PoE ports handle the powered endpoints; one DIN-rail unit handles both
- Railway Core & Station Aggregation Nodes — EN-environment rail deployments where a station or yard facility sits at the junction of multiple fiber rings connecting platforms, trackside nodes, and the operations center. The G.8032 EPR and MSTP combination provides the sub-50ms failover that railway signaling and passenger safety systems require, while VLAN segmentation keeps passenger information, access control, and safety-critical traffic isolated on the same physical infrastructure
- Power Grid Substation Aggregation — Electrical substations that aggregate SCADA traffic from multiple protection relay panels, RTUs, and metering systems across a facility benefit from the IM-FP888GW’s ability to terminate multiple fiber segments — bay level, station level, and inter-substation — in a single managed node with full ACL and 802.1X security enforcement and Level 3 EMS immunity across the full IEC 61000-4 suite
- Large-Scale IP Surveillance Command Nodes — City-wide or campus-wide surveillance networks where a central distribution node aggregates fiber feeds from multiple access-layer switches, each carrying streams from dozens of cameras. IGMP snooping efficiently replicates multicast video streams to authorized monitoring workstations without flooding the network, while QoS ensures recording traffic never impacts live monitoring feeds
- Data Center Edge & Industrial Cloud On-Ramp — Serves as the managed edge aggregation switch connecting industrial OT networks to IT infrastructure, with full VLAN segmentation enforcing the boundary between operational technology and corporate data networks, and LACP-bonded fiber uplinks providing both redundancy and the bandwidth headroom that converged OT/IT architectures demand
- Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Plant Networks — Multi-ring topology support enables fault-tolerant fiber networks across large refinery and processing plant sites where equipment is spread across multiple explosion-risk zones, access is restricted, and network outages have direct operational and safety consequences. Eight fiber ports allow a single managed node to interconnect the full site topology
