Introduction
- Every PoE switch on the market assumes you have 48V DC available.
- The Olycom IM-WP054BGE doesn’t make that assumption — because in the real world of vehicle networks, solar-powered surveillance sites, and mobile infrastructure, you often don’t.
- With a built-in active power booster, the IM-WP054BGE accepts DC 12V, 24V, or 48V input and internally converts whatever voltage is available to a stable DC 48V PoE output — delivering fully standards-compliant IEEE 802.3af (15.4W) and 802.3at (30W) PoE across all four powered ports without any external converter, voltage regulator, or additional hardware.
- Connect it to a 12V vehicle battery and it supplies up to 60W of PoE budget.
- Connect it to a 24V system and the budget rises to 90W.
- On 48V, it delivers the full 120W across all four PoE ports simultaneously.
- The fifth port passes Gigabit data without PoE — for uplink, a non-PoE device, or daisy-chaining to the next switch in the network.
- The result is the most deployment-flexible PoE switch in the IM series: a single SKU that works equally well bolted inside a bus, mounted in a solar-charged field cabinet, installed on a maritime vessel’s 24V DC bus, or dropped into any industrial environment where 48V infrastructure simply isn’t available.
- 6KV Ethernet surge protection, ±15KV ESD immunity, -40°C to +75°C operation, and an IP40 corrugated metal housing at 114 × 93 × 35mm complete a platform built to operate wherever the devices it powers need to go.
Key Features
- Built-In Active Power Booster — The Core Differentiator — Internally converts DC 12V, 24V, or 48V input to stable DC 48V PoE output; no external DC-DC converter, no voltage regulator, no additional hardware required; the switch handles the conversion itself
- Tiered PoE Budget by Input Voltage:
- DC 12V input → 60W total PoE budget
- DC 24V input → 90W total PoE budget
- DC 48V input → 120W total PoE budget
- 4 × Gigabit PoE Ports (Port 1–4) — IEEE 802.3af (15.4W) and 802.3at (30W) per port; per-port auto-detection of PoE vs. non-PoE devices; non-PoE devices receive data only; Auto MDI/MDIX on all ports
- 1 × Gigabit Non-PoE Port (Port 5) — Dedicated uplink or data-only port for connecting to a router, upstream switch, or non-PoE device without consuming PoE budget
- 5 × 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Sensing RJ45 Ports — Full Gigabit auto-negotiation on all five ports; backward compatible with 10/100Mbps legacy devices
- 10Gbps Non-Blocking Switching Fabric — 14.88Mpps forwarding rate, <10µs forwarding delay, 2K MAC table, 1.75MB packet buffer; store-and-forward architecture ensures error-free forwarding across all ports simultaneously
- 6KV Ethernet Surge Protection — Port-level lightning and transient protection on all RJ45 interfaces; critical for outdoor-adjacent and vehicle-mounted deployments subject to ignition noise and induced surge events
- ±15KV Air / ±6KV Contact ESD (IEC 61000-4-2) — High-static environments including vehicle cabins and outdoor installations are covered
- ±6KV EFT (IEC 61000-4-4) / ±6KV Common-Mode Surge (IEC 61000-4-5) — Protects against electrical fast transients from motor loads, relay switching, and power converter interference — the constant electrical noise of vehicle and solar power environments
- Reverse Polarity Protection — Prevents damage from miswiring during installation; critical for field deployments without on-site electrical engineering supervision
- -40°C to +75°C Operating Temperature — Full cold-start capability from arctic winters to desert cabinet heat; storage rated to +85°C
- 114 × 93 × 35mm IP40 Corrugated Metal Housing — DIN-rail or wall-mount; 350g; compact enough for vehicle instrument bays and pole-mount junction boxes
- CE Class B / FCC Class B Certified | 3-Year Warranty + Lifetime Technical Support
- OEM Available — Logo, model name, label, PVC mask, and hardware accessories customizable
Applications
- Vehicle & Fleet Networks — The Primary Use Case — The built-in booster is what makes the IM-WP054BGE uniquely suited to vehicle networking. A bus, truck, or emergency vehicle runs on a 12V or 24V electrical system. Every other PoE switch on the market requires 48V — meaning a separate DC-DC converter must be installed, specified, powered, and maintained. The IM-WP054BGE eliminates that converter entirely: connect directly to the vehicle battery bus, and the switch outputs standard 48V PoE to onboard IP cameras, passenger Wi-Fi APs, driver-facing displays, and fleet telematics devices. One less component, one less failure point, one less installation step
- Solar-Powered Surveillance & Remote Monitoring — Off-grid solar installations typically produce 12V or 24V DC from their battery banks — not 48V. Deploying PoE cameras at these sites has historically required either a separate 48V power supply (adding cost, complexity, and another potential failure point in a location where service calls are expensive) or accepting non-PoE cameras with their own power adapters. The IM-WP054BGE accepts the solar battery voltage directly and outputs PoE to up to four cameras, making fully PoE-powered off-grid surveillance practical without additional power conversion hardware
- Maritime & Vessel Networks — Ships and boats typically operate on 12V or 24V DC electrical systems. The IM-WP054BGE’s ability to accept these voltages natively and output 48V PoE makes it the natural choice for onboard IP camera networks, chart room networking, AIS display connectivity, and passenger Wi-Fi systems in vessels ranging from small workboats to commercial shipping, where both the 6KV surge protection and the wide temperature range are directly relevant to the operating environment
- Construction Site & Temporary Infrastructure — Mobile generator sets and temporary power systems on construction sites often output non-standard or variable DC voltages. The three-input-voltage flexibility (12/24/48V) makes the IM-WP054BGE compatible with whatever power source is available on site, powering temporary surveillance cameras, access control checkpoints, and site communications equipment without waiting for a proper 48V power supply to be procured and installed
- EV Charging Station Perimeter Networks — EV charging infrastructure typically operates from high-voltage DC buses stepped down to 12V or 24V for auxiliary systems. Surveillance cameras and access control devices at charging stations can be powered directly from the auxiliary DC bus through the IM-WP054BGE, eliminating the need for separate 48V PoE injectors at each camera location across the charging site
- Industrial Automation with Non-Standard Power Rails — Some industrial machinery and production equipment operates on 24V DC plant buses where 48V infrastructure was never installed. Rather than running new 48V power wiring to add IP cameras, wireless APs, or vision systems to these lines, the IM-WP054BGE connects directly to the existing 24V bus and distributes PoE to up to four new networked devices — achieving the upgrade without a power infrastructure project
- Disaster Response & Field Command Networks — Rapidly deployable surveillance and communications networks in disaster response, military field operations, and temporary command posts are frequently powered by whatever vehicle or generator power is available. The IM-WP054BGE’s acceptance of 12V, 24V, or 48V input means it integrates with any available power source without pre-planning the voltage, and its rugged metal housing and -40°C cold-start rating support operation across any environment where such deployments occur
