Introduction
- The Olycom IM-FS120GE is a compact 3-port industrial Gigabit fiber switch purpose-built for applications where a single fiber uplink needs to serve two local copper devices in a space-constrained, environmentally demanding installation.
- With 1 × 100/1000Mbps SFP fiber port and 2 × 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 copper ports, it bridges long-distance fiber backbone connections to local endpoints in a form factor small enough to fit inside a junction box, pole-mount enclosure, or instrument cabinet.
- Rated for -40°C to +75°C operation, powered by a wide-range DC 12–52V redundant input with reverse polarity protection, and protected by ±15KV air ESD, ±6KV EFT, and ±6KV common-mode surge on all ports, it is built to survive the electrical and environmental extremes that characterize outdoor infrastructure, industrial automation, and rail transit deployments.
- At just 114 × 93 × 35mm and 350g, it installs on a standard DIN rail or flat wall surface in minutes — making it one of the most deployment-flexible industrial fiber switches at this port count.
Key Features
- 1 × 100/1000Mbps SFP Fiber Port — Compatible with single-mode transceivers (1310/1550nm up to 20km; 1490/1550nm up to 40–120km) and multimode transceivers (850nm up to 500m; 1310nm up to 2km); plug-and-play with no configuration required
- 2 × 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Sensing RJ45 Ports — Full Gigabit copper connectivity for local devices with Auto MDI/MDIX; no crossover cables required
- 6KV Ethernet Surge Protection — Industrial-grade lightning and surge protection on all copper ports for outdoor and exposed installation environments
- ±15KV Air / ±6KV Contact ESD Protection — Exceeds standard commercial ESD ratings; protects connected equipment and the switch itself in high-static environments
- ±6KV EFT & ±6KV Common-Mode Surge (IEC 61000-4-4/4-5) — Comprehensive immunity against electrical fast transients and power-line surge events common in industrial and substation environments
- 6Gbps Non-Blocking Switching Fabric — Wire-speed store-and-forward switching with <10µs forwarding delay, 4.464Mpps forwarding rate, 4K MAC table, and 1.75MB packet buffer
- Wide-Range DC 12–52V Redundant Power Input — Accepts 12V, 24V, or 48V DC from any standard industrial power source; reverse polarity protection prevents damage from miswiring; full load power consumption ≤5W
- -40°C to +75°C Operating Temperature — Cold-start capable and heat-tolerant without derating or forced cooling; storage rated to +85°C
- Ultra-Compact DIN-Rail / Wall-Mount Design — 114 × 93 × 35mm footprint and 350g weight fit inside the tightest enclosures; ships with both DIN-rail bracket and wall-mount hardware
- IP40-Rated Corrugated Metal Housing — Dust-protected, EMI-shielded all-metal enclosure for permanent industrial installation
- IEEE 802.3x / Back Pressure Flow Control — Packet loss prevention in both full and half duplex environments
- CE Class B & FCC Part 15 Class B Certified — EN 55032, EN IEC 62368-1, and FCC ANSI C63.4 compliant; 3-year warranty with lifetime technical support
Applications
- IP Surveillance & Outdoor CCTV — Connects one or two IP cameras at a remote mounting location back to a fiber backbone switch, eliminating long copper runs and the signal degradation and surge vulnerability that comes with them. The 6KV surge and ±15KV ESD protection are essential for pole-mounted and rooftop camera installations exposed to lightning and static discharge
- Wind & Solar Power Generation — Provides reliable fiber-to-copper conversion inside wind turbine nacelles, solar inverter cabinets, and remote monitoring stations where the DC 12–52V input range integrates directly with on-site battery or renewable energy power systems and the extreme temperature range covers both desert heat and high-altitude cold
- Power SCADA & Electrical Substations — Deployed inside switchgear and relay protection panels to connect RTUs, protection relays, and monitoring terminals to fiber-based SCADA networks, with surge and EFT immunity levels meeting substation electromagnetic environment requirements
- Rail Transit & Metro PIS Systems — Compact size and DIN-rail mounting fit directly into trackside equipment enclosures and onboard passenger information system (PIS) cabinets. The wide temperature range, EFT immunity, and shock/vibration tolerance support continuous operation in rolling stock and wayside infrastructure
- Water Treatment & Sewage Plants — Powers control network connections inside pump station and treatment facility control panels, where corrosive atmospheres, humidity variation, and electrical noise from motor drives demand robust surge and ESD protection beyond what commercial switches provide
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) — Installed in roadside cabinets and traffic control enclosures connecting traffic cameras, variable message signs, and loop detector controllers to fiber-based traffic management networks along highways and urban arterials
- Metallurgy & Heavy Industry — Connects machine vision systems, process sensors, and industrial PCs to factory fiber backbones inside control panels on smelting floors, rolling mills, and foundry production lines where electromagnetic interference from large motors and furnaces is severe
- Military & Mission-Critical Infrastructure — The combination of wide temperature tolerance, high ESD/surge immunity, compact rugged housing, and CE/FCC Class B certification makes the IM-FS120GE suitable for deployment in hardened communication nodes, field command posts, and critical infrastructure protection systems
