Introduction
- Running two cables to a remote device — one for data, one for power — is a solved problem.
- Running zero cables for power while extending the data link across kilometers of fiber is what the Olycom IM-PC111FE makes possible.
- This 1-to-1 industrial PoE fiber media converter takes a single fiber connection and a 48V DC power input, and delivers both 100Mbps Ethernet data and up to 15.4W of IEEE 802.3af PoE power (30W 802.3at with special configuration) through a single Cat5 cable to the connected endpoint — up to 100 meters away on copper, and up to 120km away on the fiber side.
- The result is a two-piece solution that eliminates local power infrastructure at the remote end entirely: one converter at the headend, one at the device, one fiber between them, and the camera, AP, or sensor at the far end powers up without a local outlet, a PoE injector, or a separate power run.
- Unlike a multi-port PoE switch repurposed for single-device deployments, the IM-PC111FE introduces no switching logic, no MAC table, and no protocol overhead into the link — it is a transparent point-to-point bridge that passes data and delivers power, nothing more.
- Combined with 6KV Ethernet surge protection, -40°C to +75°C operation, NEMA-TS2 and EN 50121-4 certifications, and IEC 60068 mechanical validation in a 113.8 × 93 × 34.9mm IP40 metal housing, it is the most direct path to powering a single remote device over fiber in a harsh outdoor or industrial environment.
Key Features
- 1 × 100Mbps SFP Fiber Port — Single-mode support from 20km to 120km (1310/1550nm; 1490/1550nm); multimode up to 2km (1310nm); full transceiver flexibility across short-range campus links and long metropolitan fiber runs
- 1 × 10/100Mbps PoE RJ45 Port — IEEE 802.3af PoE output (15.4W); 802.3at (30W) available with special power configuration; auto-detects PoE vs. non-PoE endpoints; Auto MDI/MDIX eliminates crossover cable dependency
- Transparent Point-to-Point Operation — No switching layer, no MAC table, no IP address; data passes through bit-for-bit with full frame integrity preserved; the connected device sees a normal Fast Ethernet link regardless of fiber distance
- Dedicated 48V PoE Power Input — Independent PoE supply input (48V, max 52V) separates link power from PoE delivery; reverse polarity protection standard; the fiber link remains active even when PoE load varies
- 6KV Ethernet Surge Protection — Port-level lightning and transient protection on the RJ45 interface; protects both the converter and the connected endpoint from induced surge events at outdoor and exposed installations
- Level 3 EMS Immunity: EN 61000-4-2/3/4/5/6/8 — Full industrial electromagnetic immunity: ESD (±15KV air / ±6KV contact), radiated susceptibility, EFT, surge, conducted susceptibility, and power frequency magnetic field
- NEMA-TS2 Traffic Control Certified — Qualified for US roadside cabinet and traffic control system deployment
- EN 50121-4 Rail Traffic Certified — Meets European railway EMC requirements for wayside and onboard rolling stock applications
- IEC 60068-2-6/27/32 Vibration, Shock & Freefall Certified — Mechanically validated for continuous vibration, impact events, and transport handling in vehicle-mounted and trackside installations
- -40°C to +75°C Operating Temperature — Cold-start rated without warm-up period; storage to +85°C; no thermal derating at extremes
- 113.8 × 93 × 34.9mm IP40 Corrugated Metal Housing — DIN-rail mounting; identical compact footprint to the IM-FS120FE; fits inside the tightest field enclosures and instrument panels
- FCC Part 15 Class A / EN 55022 Class A | CE / LVD EN60950 | 3-Year Warranty
Applications
- Remote Camera Powering Over Fiber — No Local Outlet Required — The primary use case the IM-PC111FE was built for: an IP camera at a location where running a power cable is impractical — a rooftop, a bridge, a highway gantry, a remote perimeter post — but a fiber run already exists or can be laid. The converter pair eliminates the power infrastructure problem entirely: the headend unit draws 48V from the equipment room, the remote unit delivers PoE to the camera, and no electrician is needed at the camera end
- Single-Device Fiber Extension with Integrated PoE — Any PoE-powered device — a wireless AP, an IP intercom, an environmental sensor, an access control reader — that needs to be placed beyond copper Ethernet range (100m) can be served by a pair of IM-PC111FE converters over a fiber run, with power delivered through the same Cat5 cable at the device end. This is cleaner and more cost-effective than a PoE switch plus a separate media converter at each end
- Roadside & Traffic Monitoring Single Points — NEMA-TS2 certification qualifies the IM-PC111FE for installation in traffic control cabinets alongside the single camera or sensor it serves. At remote monitoring points along highways or at rural intersections where fiber infrastructure exists but local power does not, the converter provides both connectivity and power from the central equipment room over one fiber strand
- Railway Lineside Single-Device Nodes — EN 50121-4 certification and IEC 60068 mechanical validation cover deployment in compact trackside enclosures serving a single device — a lineside camera, a track circuit interface, or a passenger emergency call point — where the combination of long fiber distance, harsh mechanical environment, and absence of local power makes the IM-PC111FE the only single-unit solution that meets all three requirements simultaneously
- Utility Infrastructure Remote Monitoring — Pipeline inspection cameras, dam level sensors, power line monitoring devices, and remote weather stations installed along utility corridors are frequently beyond copper range of the nearest facility and lack local power supply. A pair of IM-PC111FE converters bridges the fiber gap and eliminates the local power requirement, reducing the civil infrastructure cost of each monitoring point significantly
- Building Perimeter & Blind Spot Coverage — In large commercial and industrial buildings, certain camera positions — loading dock corners, roof edges, basement entry points — are too far from the nearest data closet for copper and lack a local power outlet. A short fiber run from the nearest IDF, terminated with an IM-PC111FE at each end, solves both the distance and power problems without ceiling or conduit work beyond the fiber itself
- Vehicle & Mobile Platform Single-Camera Nodes — In rolling stock, trucks, and special-purpose vehicles where onboard networking is fiber-based, the IM-PC111FE connects a single PoE camera at a specific mounting position — cab interior, rear hatch, undercarriage — to the vehicle fiber backbone, powering the camera from the vehicle’s 48V supply through the converter without a separate local power tap at each camera position
